EVELYN ADAMS

Evelyn Adlam is a British citizen born in Kampala, Uganda, into the well-known Kibuka-Musoke family. Her early life in Uganda was marked by privilege and education. She attended Gayaza High School, one of the country’s most prestigious boarding schools for girls, before pursuing her higher education at Makerere University, where she graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree. Makerere, the only university in East Africa at the time, was a hub of intellectual and cultural growth, shaping Evelyn’s worldview and aspirations.

However, her life took a dramatic turn in 1971 when Idi Amin seized power in Uganda through a military coup. Under Amin’s brutal dictatorship, Evelyn and her family faced persecution, and two of her family members were tragically murdered. Forced to flee her homeland, Evelyn sought refuge in the United Kingdom in 1972.

In the UK, Evelyn pursued further studies in Economics and Human Resource Management, while also becoming a qualified Graduate Personal Secretary. She built a successful career, first working for a major oil company and later as a Group Human Resources Manager for a multinational corporation with global operations. Eventually, she joined an international organization, working across 50 countries in recruitment, training, and staff development before retiring to manage her family’s property business.

Evelyn’s personal experiences of survival, loss, and resilience during one of Uganda’s darkest periods inspired her to write Dreams of Freedom, a novel that intertwines fiction with the harsh realities she and many others endured during Amin’s regime. Today, she lives happily in London with her husband, Ian Howarth.
